TERU Dreamy in Venice

“Although music and art are different forms of expression, I believe that both are, at their core, a way of confronting oneself.
If singing means releasing one’s inner world outward, then painting and creating forms can also become a silent gesture of introspection.“

Franco Schiavon Gallery presents DREAMY in VENICE
On the occasion of the 61st Venice Biennale of Art
Curated by Tsuchida Yasuhiko
June 12 – November 22 2026
Mon-Sun, 10.00 am – 5.00 pm

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the band GLAY and the 61st Venice Biennale of Art, on June 12, 2026, Franco Schiavon Gallery will inaugurate the exhibition “DREAMY”, dedicated to the works of TERU in collaboration with internationally renowned glass master Tsuchida Yasuhiko.
The exhibition presents an installation that brings together glass and painting, the result of a long creative journey spanning over ten years. TERU, vocalist of the famous Japanese rock band GLAY, developed these works through numerous trips to Murano and an ongoing dialogue with the local glassmaking tradition.
The project reflects his transition between music and visual arts, transforming musical sensitivity into forms and colors in glass. The works express a strong vitality and a research-driven approach that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional craftsmanship.
Finally, the exhibition highlights how rhythm and chromatic sensitivity, cultivated through music, are reflected in glass, opening up a new artistic vision in constant evolution.

TERU (Teruhiko Kobashi, born in 1971 in Hokkaidō) is the lead singer and frontman of the Japanese rock band GLAY, a group founded in the late 1980s and one of the key forces behind the rise of rock within Japan’s mainstream music scene during the 1990s. With the band, he has helped define a musical language that blends melody and rock intensity, contributing to numerous songs and actively participating in the writing and production of their repertoire.
Alongside his musical career, he has developed an artistic practice spanning painting, graphic design, and experiments with glass art, particularly in dialogue with the Murano glassmaking tradition. His work translates musical perception into image, colour, and material, building a bridge between sound and form.

Franco Schiavon Gallery and the entire organisational team of the exhibition would like to express their most sincere gratitude to all partners and supporters who made the realisation of a project of international scope possible.
A special thank you goes to the Embassy of Italy in Japan, which this year celebrates 160 years of continuous commitment and sensitivity in promoting cultural dialogue between Italy and Japan. Within this shared journey, art reaffirms itself as a universal language capable of transcending borders and fostering encounter, exchange, and new forms of creativity.
We would also like to thank the Imagine Museum of St. Petersburg (Florida, USA) and its founder Trish Duggan for having welcomed a work from the exhibition into its permanent collection, thereby contributing to strengthening its international dimension and visibility.
